Relaxation Therapy

Relaxation Therapy
The purpose of relaxation therapy is to educate on new ways of responding to stress and unlock the patterns of behaviour that are stopping relaxation. Stress can have a negative impact on your physical, mental and spiritual health and adversely affects your immune system. In the busy life we lead it seems virtually impossible to accomplish everything we need to do without becoming stressed.
Why do we need relaxation techniques?
- Proximity of more people around us.
- More cars on the road.
- More noise.
- Faster pace of life.
- No time or energy to relax properly and if we do it is through television, alcohol or drugs.
- Work pressures.
- Family pressures.
- Less family support.
- Move to be near jobs, feeling of isolation.
- More money worries.
- Less exercise.
- Worse diet.
- Alcohol and drugs.
- Fight and flight.
At Angelic Holistic Practice we offer a relaxing, supportive, harmonious, therapeutic environment where you can experience a state of deep relaxation. We treat you as a whole; we work on mind, body and spirit. We offer a large range of techniques that will allow you to learn to relax. We offer a range of therapies and will tailor a plan to suit your individual needs.
Nowadays more and more people are going to a relaxation therapist either recommended by their doctor or through personal choice. Our lifestyles have become more stressful, we are living a faster pace of life, we have more family and work pressures and there are more environmental hazards etc. People are finding it hard to find the time, energy or motivation to relax and need educating on the importance of relaxation. They sometimes do not now what methods of relaxation therapy are available to use and what the different therapies can help with. A common mistake we make is that in order to relax we turn to drink or drugs, over eat or sit in front of the television under the ‘illusion’ that it is relaxing us.
In our lives we accumulate memories of many types of experiences, that affect our emotional, psychological and physical well being, some being good and some being bad. These memories have emotions attached to them, so when we recall them or relive similar experiences we tend to react in a similar way, unless we learn to change the emotions associated with the experiences. If we have bad memories these may cause us to be tense, have anxiety or stressful feelings, anger, fear, sadness, we may even feel we need to protect ourselves etc.
If we have had a bad experience at school e.g. in an English lesson reading a piece of Literature out loud, then each time in our life when we then have to read out loud, the fear we may have felt right back to the time at school will resurface with the same emotions attached to it. This may stop us doing a job we would like to e.g. reading out loud at meetings, as you would anticipate the experience before it happens, attach the past emotions to it, if this regular happens eventually it could leave you tense, anxious, stressed and eventually make you ill.
We are like elephants, our mind and body never forgets!
As a relaxation therapist I can help educate you in new ways of responding to situations.

Relaxation.
Relaxation techniques are aimed at bringing body, mind and spirit into harmony, in the way of muscular relaxation, concentration or sensory awareness. It relaxes your muscles, balances your metabolism and brings your autonomic functions under voluntary control. Relaxation Techniques use breath, sound or visual images to help us focus on the body sensations, thoughts or cultivating specific emotional states.
In relaxation techniques we are learning a system of educating ourselves, ways to respond to stress rather than patterns we are locked into in our subconscious mind, behaviour is conditioned and we respond through memory. Tensions accumulate blocked energy, which crystallises into rigid behavioural, mental and postural patterns, which holds built up energy. Stress reduces our body’s ability to heal and function; relaxation techniques counteract our stress reactions to shock, pollutants and strains. Due to the fight or flight responses that react to stress, we no longer fight or run if stressed, so we are in a state of constant physiological arousal, muscles tensed and metabolism revved.
Relaxation techniques can reduce our blood pressure and flow. It can also reduce heartbeat, breathing rates and hormone levels. In addition the techniques taught may quieten our action nerves and our impulse to strike. It can help release physical and mental tensions and restores harmony and balance in the body. It gives the body and mind the chance to do its own healing.
A relaxed body, by definition, must be one that is free of discomfort and disharmony, which requires a certain level of physical fitness and freedom from disease. Complete relaxation can only come when the individual is at peace with him or herself, both in a mental and physical state.

I think conscious relaxation bridges the gap between the body and the mind and allow us to feel united in complete awareness. It allows us to get in touch with the feeling within the body, as often the mind is working on so many projects at one time and the body on something different. In conscious relaxation we have a deeper awareness and sense of relaxation and use our senses to open the doors of perception to harmonise and balance our life experience and create a deep sense of well being.
